Abstract:
Cooper describes an unusual type of sea creature, the mantis shrimp, which is neither shrimp nor mantis. It belongs to a large group of crustaceans known as stomatopods. Two of their characteristics are fast striking weaponry and perhaps the most complex eyes in the entire animal kingdom. As other small creatures are foods for them, they are part of the diet of larger predators, like sharks, red snappers, and squids.
