Abstract:
Until 2017, one of the areas that had received comparatively little political attention in North Carolina’s state lawmakers is transportation. Under a Republican-controlled state government, ceasing the transfer of funds from the Highway Fund and Highway Trust Fund. This, along with a change in taxes and fees, promised to provide more funds for transportation-related projects. An accompanying chart illustrated the proposed transportation spending over the next four years.

Abstract:
This bulletin describes significant changes to the statutes affecting register responsibilities made by the 2008 NC General Assembly. The fee for recording a deed of trust or mortgage was increased.

As more and more tourists travel to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park area, it has been argued that a small toll fee for use of the federally-constructed roads would help alleviate the Park of some its deterioration issues. However, there is a general opposition to imposing a fee on the public, believing it will discourage visitation.
