Abstract:
Dentistry was hard to come by in rural North Carolina until East Carolina’s $60 million School of Dental Medicine opens in August. In a pioneering program for the nation, ECU’s dental school will build and staff (with faculty dentists, dental residents, and fourth-year dental students) 10 dental practice centers serving some of the poorest and most isolated areas in North Carolina.

Implantology is the practice of implanting artificial, workable teeth in the mouths of people. Dr. Paul A. Homoly of Hildebran is North Carolina’s first active member of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry. Hildebran is opening offices in Charlotte and Asheville, while training other dentists for this new specialty.
