Nathan Wilson Walker, a Currituck County native, was appointed professor of secondary education at UNC-Chapel Hill and State Inspector of High Schools in 1905. In 1910, he founded and edited The North Carolina High School Bulletin. He served on the NC Textbook Committee, the NC Teachers Assembly, and The Southern Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. Walker was also on the board of trustees of the NC College for Negroes in Durham, NC and on the board of governors of UNC-Chapel-Hill.
