Cary began as an 18th-century crossroads inn in western Wake County known as Bradford's Ordinary. Over the centuries the town has prospered due to a fortune location near Raleigh, the state capital. As Cary begins widening Evans road, the town has claimed property from local residents by way of eminent domain. A group of residents is fighting back. The residents are African-Americans who families were part of a thriving community before development in Cary took off in the 1990s. Now, the residents feel targeted and complain that the city has not listened to them or offered them fair prices for their land.
