Ten years ago, Local Band Local Beer was started to pair local musicians with breweries in Raleigh. The music series was free but its organizers recently announced that they would begin charging an admission fee. The fee is meant to compensate the musicians fairly.

Raleigh Brewing Company is a twenty-barrel brew house and taproom attached to a brewing store. The brewery’s newest seasonal is a blood orange wheat beer called the First Squeeze. The ingredients consist of wheat, malted barley, caramel malts, and blood orange peels.

At 17, Reid Hoke was a jockey racing on tracks from New York to Oklahoma. Now he is pursuing a new career -- opening a brewery and bottling his own beer in Raleigh. The brewery will make unpasteurized German-style beer the old fashioned way. His company will be called the Raleigh Brewing Company, and its lager, Raleigh Pilsner.

Brewery Bhavana opened in Raleigh and has since changed the definition of “brewery”. Along with the brewery, taproom, and dim sum restaurant, other shops have been incorporated into the business, such as a flower shop and a book store. Brewery Bhavana was listed as one of the best new restaurants in the country shortly after opening.
