In this day and time when basketball has been streamlined from top to bottom and you sometimes see a team score enough points to run into three figures, it is a distinct novelty and almost unbelievable when a team plays for forty minutes during the course of a game and is able to only score one point. But that is actually what happened in a game of basketball played between Guilford College and Trinity College in the Angier Duke Gymnasium January 31, 1907.

For Duke University and North Carolina State University, the tournament provides a chance to build momentum and define their season's success. The University of North Carolina was the top regular season finisher this year, and has a good chance of winning the tournament.

The North Carolina Tar Heels defeated Loyola and set a record with the most points scored in a basketball game in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) tournament’s fifty-year history. Overall, the University of North Carolina finished seventh in the polls and Duke University placed fifth.

North Carolina’s Touchstone Energy Cooperatives provide the opportunity for middle school students to attend prestigious basketball camps in North Carolina through all-expense paid scholarships. Two of those camps, which are highlighted in this article, are the Roy Williams basketball camp at University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, and Kay Yow basketball camp at North Carolina State University.
