Most of Durham's best-loved bakeries are located within an area known as the Durham Bakery District. This area is helping to revitalize the city's downtown. Among the bakeries described are DaiseyCakes, Loaf Bakery, Monuts Donuts, Ninth Street Bakery, and Scratch Bakery.

Ari Berenbaum is the owner of Ninth Street Bakery in downtown Durham. The bakery’s latest product is the Asiago scone made by hand by Maria Rivera and baked overnight by her husband Jose Cortez. For the past two weeks, every batch of scones has sold out.

Ari Berenbaum is a baker from Durham who owns a pop-up, experimental bake stand. Berenbaum runs a bakery which operates its pricing on a sliding-scale. Customers pay what they want or what they are able to per loaf of bread. Berenbaum also operates a Community Supported Bakery program which delivers bread by bicycle to West Durham residents. The former philosopher enjoys baking and the reactions his customers provide when they learn how to pay for their bread.
