Their work is also featured in a new exhibit in the North Carolina Gallery. The Jack Rose family of Tyrrell County has a thriving at-home business which produces and sells about one-thousand copper tooled pictures each year. The family of five artists sell their original copper tooling pieces in area crafts shops, through special orders, and in crafts shows.

Felipe Jesus Consalvos was a Cuban American collage artist and cigar maker. Each of his collages incorporates US manufactured cigar box labels and date from after his immigration to America from Cuba. His collages extrapolate the hobbyist hobo vernacular tradition of patriotic patterned cigar band collage to formally sophisticated, politically subversive, and sexually transgressive ends, using the body as a vehicle for absurdist satire, both hilarious and anxious.

Seven prints from Georges Rouault’s Miserere series are being exhibited in the Twentieth Century Gallery this summer. The paintings portray the sufferings and hopes of the modern man. Rouault is known for his skills as a printmaker and painter and as one of the most significant religious painters of the twentieth century. Rouault’s biography, his artistic style, and the religious symbolism in his work are detailed.

The Museum will display the work of Norman Rockwell in an upcoming exhibition. 40 original paintings and 323 Saturday Evening Post covers will be on display. Rockwell was influential in shaping the nation’s self-image during the twentieth-century through his illustrations in media publications. Rockwell’s art is noted for its humor and portrayal of everyday life. Rockwell’s style and criticism of his work are discussed in this preview of the exhibition.

The self-portraits of Viennese artist Arnulf Rainer will be exhibited in the Contemporary Gallery this winter. This will be the first solo exhibition of Rainer’s work in North America. Rainer’s portraits have been altered after they were drawn on by the artists creating extreme emotional images. Rainer’s work is often described as disturbing or violent due to the distorted images.

This summer, the Museum will present a comprehensive exhibition from the twentieth-century decorative arts collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. Created between 1900 and 1940 the objects show how various artists responded to the innovations of technology. The exhibition offers works of furniture, metalwork, glass, and ceramics that showcase the Arts and Crafts movement, Art Nouveau, Art Deco, and Art Moderne periods.
