The public light-art show, Particle Falls, will occur every night in Raleigh from March 24 to April 23. Designed by Andrea Polli, an artist and scientist, the show primarily aims to draw attention to the polluting effects of vehicle emissions, which North Carolina's Department of Environmental Quality lists as one of the area's leading air pollutants.

The Asheville Area Arts Council will present Cyan-Magenta-Yellow-Black, a new exhibit at The Refinery Creator Space. The exhibit showcases mixed media from a group of young artists based in Asheville who use color and light immersion inspired by the color-printing model known as CMYK. Their work explores the transition from analog to digital culture, and how we communicate as a society.

The Southern Highland Craft Guild, a network of artists and mountain craftspeople, opened an exhibition called, “Roots in the Guild: Nine Women Artists Today” at the Folk Art Center in Asheville. The nine artists joined the Guild in the 1970s when styles and designs were transitioning from traditional to modern and contemporary in craft.

The southern Appalachian region claims a rich history of ceramics and Western North Carolina is home to some of the woodfire field’s top artists and a number of young artists leading the field in new directions. Throughout June, the Asheville Area Arts Council presents an exhibition of works which demonstrate how potters influence each other’s art as they work together.

The Grovewood Gallery will debut Shawn Krueger’s solo exhibition, Southern Migrations, in July and August. Krueger has become a fixture in the Asheville art scene, being drawn into the multitude of landscapes available in the region. His painting style is tonalism, which is an American progressive art form featuring by soft tones and dark hues, creating the effect of a colored atmosphere or mist.

A new exhibit called, Forging Futures: Studio Craft in Western North Carolina, showcases craft artisans who excel in clay, fiber, glass, metal and wood. The exhibition is sponsored by Blue Spiral 1 and the Center for Craft, Creativity and Design. Most of them well known, the artists were selected for their ability to adapt tools, techniques and ideas that transcend traditional notions of craft.

This summer, the Western Carolina University (WCU) Fine Art Museum at Bardo Arts Center explores elements of fine craft through exhibitions featuring printmaking and pottery. The first exhibit will display vitreographs, which are prints made with a glass matrix instead of a traditional material. The second exhibit features the work of Cherokee artists, bringing together both historic and contemporary pottery techniques.

The Toe River Arts Council (TRAC) Spruce Pine Gallery will host Inheritance, an exhibition of paintings by four artists. The artists were all heavily influenced by the teachings of Paul Hartley, a renowned painting professor who taught for many years at East Carolina University. One of Hartley’s large-scale paintings is also included in the show.

On November 10, 2016, the YMI Cultural Center in Asheville, North Carolina will exhibit a collection of art pieces created by survivors of sexual violence. The annual show, now in its fifteenth year, aims to bring survivors together by providing a community forum in which to share stories and encourage healing. The show is sponsored by the nonprofit Our VOICE, which stands for Victims Outreach Intervention, Counseling and Education.
