A Martin County resident was inspired to participate in the fight to end the modern age equivalent of slavery. Helping individuals like Jeannette Biggers and groups like AGLOW to end human trafficking is factors increasing the likelihood of involvement in human trafficking and resources that someone involved with human trafficking or suspects its occurrence can refer to.

Numerous national news reports about assaults on children by sports coaches prompted the Knightdale Sports and Recreation Department to conduct background checks on potential volunteer coaches as part of the overall application process. Knightdale is one of the first parks and recreation departments in the state to do this.

The long-term effects of childhood sexual abuse often go unseen. UNC School of Medicine researchers Mark Corrigan and James Garbutt investigate which aspects of childhood sexual abuse, such has early age of onset, most negatively affect psychiatric outcomes in adulthood.
