Abstract:
The North Carolina Citizens Association presented Mary D.B.T. Semans with its Citation for Distinguished Public Service at its annual meeting. She is a well-known Durham philanthropist, patron of the arts, and for her work in civic and social welfare organizations.

Abstract:
Mary Duke Biddle Trent Semans was a well-respected Durham citizen and active member in her community and state. She was the great niece of Duke University's founder, first woman elected to Durham City Council, and governor for a period between 1953 and 1955. The heiress' memorial service was held at Duke Chapel, Monday January 30th, 2012.
