Several years ago, Carolina Trace opened to the golfing community near Pinehurst and Southern Pines. Due to its overwhelming success, a new sister community, Carolina Lakes, was developed eight miles away. Carolina Lakes is a residential/recreational community located near three lakes, and offers security, privacy, marina amenities, and a full range of recreational facilities.

Craigrownie was an abandoned industrial town in the Sandhill region near Aberdeen. The town, established in the late 1800s, failed both in developing a timber and railroad industry. What remained in 1946 were a few dilapidated homes.
