Abstract:
In 1954, Whiteville funeral director A.D. Peacock discovered seven children living in dire conditions without any familial support. This experience prompted Peacock to found what is today known as the Boys & Girls Homes of North Carolina, a permanent residence program for at-risk children.

Since 2008, an equestrian riding school in Cary called CORRAL has been a place where at-risk girls between ages 11-18 and rescued horses come to heal. The goal of the programs at CORRAL is to help the girls gain confidence and learn how to be responsible, lead, communicate, and problem solve.
