The Butterfly Highway is a program that was started by the North Carolina Wildlife Federation in response to the decline of Monarch butterflies. The program works to restore habitat for the butterfly and other pollinators, including bees. The statewide conservation initiative, its history, and its successes are detailed.

The NC Wildlife Federation named Captain Jon Evans its Wildlife Enforcement Officer of the year 2011. He is a fifteen years veteran of the NC Wildlife Resources Commission and was recognized for his work while stationed as a sergeant in Alamance County. Al Kittredge is a longtime volunteer at the Commission's fishing education center in Fayetteville and received the Wildlife Volunteer of the Year 2011 from the federation.

Hunt received the federation’s Conservationist of the Year Award in honor of his support for the non-game tax checkoff legislation and opposition to the sale of National Forest land.
