Abstract:

After Hurricane Florence, NC State University's School of Architecture assisted in providing affordable housing designs for Duffyfield's redevelopment project. The New Bern, North Carolina housing community also saw assistance from the North Carolina Sea Grant and students from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill's capstone class.

Abstract:

The historical Nags Head and Folly Beach have joined together to face the challenges that rising sea levels have brought to the two communities. The two have launched a Sea Grant Project aimed at pioneering more effective ways to manage their increased amounts of wastewater.

Abstract:

A tour group led by North Carolina Sea Grant’s fisheries specialist visited Wanchese, Hatteras Island, Ocracoke, and Carteret County. The intermingling of individuals from across the country, Canada, and North Carolina revealed how commercial fishermen are fostering community and commerce in old and new fashioned ways. Discoveries included the development of Community Supported Fisheries and an app for relaying information about catches to consumers.

Abstract:

Organizations interested in becoming better caretakers to North Carolina’s 1700 watersheds created the North Carolina Watershed Stewardship Network. In addition to workshops, the Network has engaged in initiatives such as obtaining feedback from communities about research, education, and training support needed to resolve water-resource issues. Also affirming the Network’s necessity was water-related stories shared by the North Carolina Sea Grant staff and friends, told in words and photos.
