"Mini golf, goofy golf, Putt-Putt, crazy golf--these days, you can find as many variations of miniature golf as there are nicknames for the family friendly putting courses." Don Clayton of Fayetteville developed the first miniature golf course, Putt-Putt Fun Centers in 1954. This grew by 1957 to 106 locations.

Founded in Fayetteville in 1954 by Don Clayton, Putt-Putt Golf Courses of America, Inc., now has nearly 200 franchised centers in 28 states, with other locations in 9 countries, including Australia and China. It is estimated that the company has served over one billion customers. Each year since 1975, the Professional Putters Association's national championship is held in Fayetteville. Prizes of $100,000 were awarded in this year's tournament.

Founded in Fayetteville in 1954 by Don Clayton, Putt-Putt Golf Courses of America, Inc., has about 140 franchises in this country and overseas. The course layout is copyrighted, insuring that players always play the same course wherever they are. There are 18 franchises in North Carolina, but strangely the city of its birth doesn't have one.
