North Carolina graduate students are making an effort to enter short films on marine science into the Beneath the Waves Film Festival. They are hoping that by doing this, more people will learn about marine science without having to read the scientific journals.

Of personal interest to the author were also items of historical interest. Up close and personal was the view that he offered of sunken ships, as well as the marine life that lived around them. As visual illustration was a map locating the wrecked watercrafts, which included a German submarine. Accompanying the map was a brief description of each: an old boiler, LST#741, Richmond, Kyzickes, Zane Gray, U-85, and York.

Dr. James Mead of the Smithsonian Institute was on hand to help answer this question. The creatures that helped determine the intelligence level of marine life included beaked whales, porpoises, and bottle-nosed dolphins. As for the criteria used to determine intelligence level, if communication was a criterion, then the answer was affirmative.
