Abstract:
North Carolina's gubernatorial succession amendment, which allows the governor and lieutenant governor to serve up to eight years, has had a ripple effect on the General Assembly. Structural improvements in the legislature followed the amendment, and an era of more centralized legislative leadership, more career-oriented legislators, and a more professional atmosphere has been introduced.
