For the February event spotlighted, it was called a “snow moon,” for the November event highlighted it was called a “supermoon.” Pictures taken of the moon in places like Asheville’s Pack Square and DuPont State Recreational Forest proved that, whether the moon was seen in the city or out in the county, it offered a spectacular view of lunar phenomena.

North Carolina has become well known as a site for filmmaking. Houses where scenes have been filmed include a historic house in Rodanthe, a house in Southport, Bellamy Hall in Wilmington, and Biltmore Estate in Asheville. Outdoor settings made famous through movies are Lake Lure, Dupont State Forest, and Chimney Rock. Noted examples of facilities serving as movie backdrops are Charlotte Motor Speedway and Durham Athletic Park.

DuPont State Forest, comprising 10,268 acres, lies in Henderson and Transylvania Counties twelve miles from Hendersonville. The forest has a car-free policy, and visitors enjoy the lack of traffic. Three spectacular waterfalls, all within a thirty-minute walk, are another appealing feature. Hunting permits are chosen through lottery, and deer, grouse, and turkey are popular game-animals. Camping is not allowed. Mountain bikers and horse riders are permitted on some trails. DuPont Forest attracted 116,000 visitors in 2003.
