Abstract:
The Crossnore School & Children’s Home, built in 1917, has become famous for its weaving room, created in 1920. The weavers are experts in handloom weaving, using a large loom with materials such as linen, wool, pearl cotton, alpaca, and more.

Phyllis Crain is executive director and chief executive officer of Crossnore School, Inc., a school that helps troubled kids overcome long odds. Crain, a former teacher and principal, was superintendent of Avery County Schools before accepting her present position. She is featured in NORTH CAROLINA magazine's \"executive profile.\"
