Marshall Rauch, who turned an old textile business into a fast-growing manufacturer of Christmas ornaments, is BUSINESS NORTH CAROLINA'S Entrepreneur of the Year for 1990. Rauch founded his company, Pyramid Mills, in Gastonia in 1957, and it is the largest Christmas tree ornament manufacturing company in the United States. He has represented the Twenty-fifth Senatorial District since 1967.

Marshall Rauch, a 93 year old Jewish man from Gastonia, was the biggest producer of Christmas ornaments in the world from 1962-1995. He also served in the North Carolina Senate from 1967-1998. He is still quite busy as an investor, and has lived quite a charitable life.

Rauch formed his company Pyramid Mills in Gastonia in 1957 manufacturing balls of crochet thread and kite cord. In 1964 the company switched to Christmas ornaments. His company, now Rauch Industries, Inc. of Gastonia, is the largest Christmas tree ornament manufacturing company in the United States with sales of $14 million in fiscal 1983.
