Professional football hall of famer Joe Delamielleure has chronic traumatic encephalopathy. He goes through various treatments to help the CTE. Before he and his wife knew what it was, he had no idea what his symptoms were telling him. He was irritable, depressed, and had trouble sleeping. He describes what it was like to go from angry and not sure what was wrong, to finding out he had CTE and getting treatment, to what his life is like today.

At Asheville Aphasia Group, individuals from this nonprofit organization are a voice in a sense for individuals who have lost the ability to speak or understand language, often because of cranial trauma, stroke, tumor, or infection. A condition long largely unknown to the public, it has gained more attention in recent years through attention drawn to Senator Gabrielle Giffords.

Marty Foil, Executive Director of Hinds' Feet Farm in Huntersville, discusses how this rehabilitation center for brain injury patients began. He also describes the mask project he recently initiated, where members create masks as expressions of what it is like to live with a brain injury. Foil plans to display these masks throughout the state with the hope that they will raise awareness of the effect head injuries have on victims and families.
