A Beaufort County road pays tribute to a woman who served as a trailblazer in the medical and nursing fields. Credited as founding the first college of nursing in the United States, Dimock also became the first female doctor admitted to the American Medical Association.

After a process, Leendert Van Staalduinen and his family made their way from Holland to Beaufort County in 1943. In 1996, third generation Carl Van Staalduinen and his two brothers bought Terra Ceia Farms from their father Cornelis.

Charles Thrasher moved from California to Chocowinity and has since taken an avid interest in photographing the beauty of local swamps. Focus of this sketch is a wetland near Cherry Run Road outside of Washington. All photos are taken from his fiberglass kayak. He hopes to change people's negative perceptions of swamps. His work is currently documented in a Facebook group he created last year titled Beaufort County NC Photography.
