Abstract:
John Henry Louis Mogg, an Australian native, became an American citizen between the World Wars and began a fruitful diving career. Companies along the eastern seaboard commissioned him, but he spent a great deal of time in North Carolina. When a project on the Pamlico River near Washington became available, Mogg was the sole diver responsible for all underwater construction on the marine railway. The marine railway serviced Gahagan Construction Company which was commissioned to launch upwards of 30 wooden barges; the purpose of which to haul crude oil along the Inland Waterway.

Abstract:
Jim Baughman was a native of Washington and a member of Lafayette Escadrille. Two other North Carolinians, Kiffin Rockwell of Asheville and James Roger McConnell of Carthage, also served in this French air squadron during World War I. The Lafayette Escadrille distinguished American pilots who volunteered to served in the French Air Force during World War I. In all, 209 Americans flew and 67 lost their lives, including all three North Carolinians.

Abstract:
Henry DeMille achieved fame as a playwright in the latter part of the 19th-century, but their productions and popularity did not survive beyond the early years of the 20th-century. He was the father of two well-known sons--C.B. DeMille, a playwright and motion picture director and producer, and William Churchill DeMille, a playwright and writer, director, and producer of motion pictures.
