Supporters of criminal justice reform are tentatively encouraged by Governor Pat McCrory's annual budget. If his budget is approved, $7.2 million would be allocated to re-opening and funding drug treatment facilities and close five state prisons. Drug treatment centers aim to rehabilitate convicted drug abusers and prepare those convicted to reenter society by offering counseling, GED courses, and job training.

A low-cost spay and neuter service available in the Triangle is closing. The Pet Overpopulation Patrol operated a mobile spay/neuter clinic at a low cost for pet owners in rural areas and to senior citizens and in the process performed approximately 30,000 such operations.

A historic brick building on the corner of Roxboro and Main streets in Durham is undergoing restoration. The space was built in 1924 as a Masonic Lodge and is now being updated by Kimberly Davis, founder and CEO of The Image Collections. Newly renovated floors will be used for events rather than the original intention for office spaces.

Abstract:
Saleem Reshamwala is an independent filmmaker and the owner of the Durham video production company KidEthnic. Reshamwala’s latest project is titled Dreaming Durham which will have Durham residents ask bystanders what they would like to see on the city’s vacant lots. The final film will then digitally illustrate these requests on top of the images of the empty lots as a commentary on the extreme change happening in Durham. Reshamwala is known for collaborating, his “weirdness,” and his passion.
