An exhibit entitled \"The Spirit of Community: Folklife in North Carolina\" has opened in a permanent gallery at the North Carolina Museum of History. Using multi-media displays, the exhibit documents and illustrates the themes of regional folklife.

Lau is a scholar, ethnographer, administrator, advocate, activist, and artist. Her competence at festival coordination reached far beyond the complex skills required for production: she touched the lives of participants through her empathy, observation, and communication.

Bishop Dready Manning felt called to give up playing the blues and use his musical gifts \"towards God's service.\" In the 1960s he founded St. Mark Holiness Church in rural Halifax county, where he has preached and kept the \"old-time sound alive in his church.\" He received the 1999 Brown-Hudson Folklore Award for outstanding commitment to his music and his ministry.
