Kirk is currently chief of staff for Governor James G. Martin. He will be the fifth, and youngest, president of the organization.

Abstract:
The late Lloyd E. Griffin, former schoolteacher; Harvard Law School graduate; state senator, who, with a small group of senators, saved the North Carolina public schools in 1933; and a founding member of the North Carolina Citizens Association, an organization which he led for twenty-five years, is remembered in this editorial.
