The Centennial Campus Center for Wildlife Education, located on the Centennial Campus of North Carolina State University in Raleigh, is the third installment of regional wildlife centers. The other centers are in the mountains and at the coast and are operated by the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission. Each center is tailored to a specific region, and each center has a unique mission.

Starting May 1, 2010, North Carolina boaters must meet the requirements of the Boating Safety Education Law which was passed by the North Carolina General Assembly. The program is directed at individuals younger than twenty-six years who will be operating vessels powered by a ten horsepower or greater motor on a public waterway.

Cantrell explains how Trout in the Classroom, a multifaceted learning program, functions. Involved schools are in the Piedmont, foothill, and mountain regions. Besides observing the trout evolve from eggs to fry to fingerlings, students do such activities as monitoring tank water quality, study stream habitats, and learn to appreciate water resources. At the end of the study, fingerlings are released into a selected stream under the supervision of the NC Wildlife Resource Commission fisheries biologists.

Abstract:
Smuggling reptiles and amphibians out of North Carolina is a multi-million dollar industry. There include snakes, turtles, and frogs that are sought for their skins, to use as food, and for the occult. Cantrell relates how North Carolina Wildlife Enforcement officers are increasing their efforts to prevent this illegal trade.
