Abstract:
Anchored off Cape Hatteras, the Lightship No. 17 was torpedoed by a German U-boat in 1918. After a succession of torpedoes the lightship was left to settle and sink, while the U-boat gave chase to tankers. The present Diamond Shoals Lightship was placed in 1920.

Abstract:
For about twelve years, the Pirate's Jamboree was held at Cape Hatteras Lighthouse each year in the spring. Hosting the 'World's Largest Fish Fry' brought in thousands of people, as they watched dory and beach buggy races. Unfortunately, by 1965 businesses stopped supporting the jamboree due to the messes left behind by tourists.

It was a lost art to America in general, perhaps. In Hatteras Island, Mrs. Brittie Burrus proved interest in quilting could be found in girls who were part of the Methodist Church’s Day Circle.

Abstract:
A dream of the Dare County, North Carolina people for over 40 years, the Wanchese Seafood Industrial Park is the largest commercial enterprise in county. Located on Roanoke Island, the site is 45 acres and financed with county, state, and federal funds. The park will provide up to 400 jobs and North Carolina legislation is creating a NC Seafood Industrial Park Authority for maintaining and operating this park and others the might be developed in the state.
