Abstract:
Proving the necessity of dunes is illustrations of the lingering impact of hurricanes on them and coastal ecosystems. Also used as evidence is the process involved with their return. The complexity of dune formation is explained in descriptions and images, which include species vulnerable and resistant to hurricane-generated erosion’s impact.

Abstract:
When used properly, the term “100-year flood” means there is a 1-in-100, or 1 percent, chance of a flood occurring in a certain area in any given year. This is the flood standard scientists use to predict floods. The North Carolina Floodplain Mapping Program provides online tools for viewing flood-hazard areas, and to help communities be prepared.

Following Hurricane Sandy in 2012, the U.S. Geological Society (USGS) advanced efforts to improve storm-surge data gathering and understanding. Data collection has made a tremendous leap from measuring post-storm watermarks on buildings to implementing more accurate gauge-based measurements.
