Abstract:
Community supported fisheries have taken off in North Carolina thanks to graduate students at Duke University. The students took research done by Susan Andreatta and applied it with more success than Andreatta initially had to create a thriving CSF program.

Abstract:
Tom Osborne and Nelson Bullock have teamed up to grow pearls in pen shells using nuclei. They have had success with this method so far and expect to open a hatchery for the animals as well so as not to deplete the natural supply.

There is some debate between federal managers and local fishermen about the abundance of spiny dogfish in around the Cape Hatteras area. ECU doctoral student Jennifer Cudney is working on a project that may settle the debate once and for all.

Abstract:
A barren stormwater runoff collection pond located near the Currituck County Cooperative Extension Center was designed to collect rainwater runoff from the parking lot and surrounding lawns and filter out polluting elements; however, it was not working up to its full potential. Landis describes the makeover that made the pond into a demonstration site to teach individuals about stormwater pollution and the health of surrounding areas.

Abstract:
The Fishery Resource Grant is funding the construction of new oyster reefs in Hyde, Carteret, Onslow, and New Hanover Counties. The project is expected to stimulate not only the growth of new oysters, but the economy of these counties.
