Jessie Mace learned to dowse for water when he was thirty-five. Now seventy-nine, Mace continues to make his living by finding water for people. Often called in after people have spent thousands of dollars drilling, Mace sites wells for people and is somewhat of a troubleshooter. He says a cherry twig is best when dowsing.\r\n

In 1947, Walter Cantrell, who had just returned from World War II, purchased an old wooden building in Transylvania County that was once a distillery. Previously, he had worked with the Tryon Toymakers and Woodcrafters since 1927, where he had learned furniture making from a German craftsman. Nearing retirement, he looks back on his career of making antique furniture.
