Corporations bringing American-style industry into developing countries should also bring environmental precautions. Pollution frequently becomes a volatile political issue in developing nations, but with proper planning and a higher level of responsibility, industry can prosper without polluting.

Wetlands in North Carolina and throughout the world are seriously threatened by the increase in global warming. To reverse trends, national policies are needed to cut reliance on fossil fuels, eliminate all nonessential uses of chlorofluorocarbons, and reduce the rate of deforestation.

The U.S. Department of Interior has proposed full oil field development in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska. The oil would be sold to Pacific Rim countries for short-term profits, and potentially destroy wildlife habitat.

Abstract:
As part of a program to learn more about the status and ecology of bobcat populations in North Carolina, this study examined bobcat food habits based on analyses of trapper-harvested carcasses. Stomach contents were analyzed and the results summarized by physiographic regions, sex and age.

The National Wildlife Federation is calling for support of the Endangered Species Act, currently in the process of congressional reauthorization. While some industry representatives would like to see the law weakened or repealed, the federation is asking for stronger legislative protection of rare wildlife.
