Abstract:

One of our state's most picturesque towns, Tryon, is known for its horse-loving citizens. Recently transplanted from Battle Creek, Michigan, Corky Lochinvar specializes in horse training, setting up an equine studio to train citizens in hunting and jumping. Pupils range in age from three years old, to sixty-five years.

Abstract:

Designed by William Strickland and built in 1835, the Charlotte Federal Mint was erected in America's first gold-mining region. Nearly destroyed by fire in 1844, the Charlotte Mint served as a Confederate headquarters during the Civil War. Although reopened after the close of the war, currency production never resumed.

Abstract:

Thomas Burton is helping fellow North Carolinians return to the classroom and further their education. Establishing a travelling college, Burton furnished teachers, equipment, books, and supplies, to more than 2,500 adults interested in furthering their education.
