Mitchell Minges began Hospitality Mints as a family business in Boone in 1976. These are the little mints customers find as they pay their bills on leaving the restaurant. The company uses 50,000 pounds of sugar to produce seven million mints each day, which adds up to over a billion each year.

"Absent from North Carolina’s landscape for 80 years, the plant with a hundred uses finds its way back to the fields." Ryan Patterson currently farms 1,000 acres in the Broadway community near Sanford and along the Harnett County line. In 2016, he began investigating hemp production and a year later secured one of the first hemp-growing licenses in North Carolina. He is co-owner of Broadway Hemp Company. David Suchoff with North Carolina State University says a plus to tobacco with hemp production is that the infrastructure requirements are nearly the same.

The Miss North Carolina Pageant began in 1937 and this year celebrates its 75th anniversary. The pageant began as a swimsuit contest but has since evolved into a scholarship contest. Maria Beale Fletcher is the only North Carolinian to win the Miss America Pageant. Hughes recounts highlights from the seventy-five years.

Since its onset, the state’s pageant has transformed from focusing on beauty, as a swimsuit contest, to balancing attention to beauty and brains, by including a scholarship grant. The group gathered for the event’s diamond anniversary represented career paths traveled after their journey down the Miss North Carolina runway. They included movie stars, songwriters, lawyers, and physicians. The alumna earning the distinction all crowned Miss North Carolina hope for was Maria Beale Fletcher, voted Miss North Carolina and Miss America.

Honda Aircraft, a subsidiary of Honda Motors, was founded in 2006 and is headquartered at Greensboro's Piedmont Triad International Airport. The HondaJet is the company's first general-aviation aircraft and Honda anticipates FAA certificate early in 2015 with delivery for the first 100 orders to begin thereafter. The plane can carry up to seven, including crew, and costs $4.5 million. Hughes explains why Honda chose Greensboro and what they expect to produce in the coming years.
