Description Bone, human skull with front hollow eye and nose sockets; 5 partial teeth remaining; square “door” flap in forehead attached with staples and hook; springs attach jaw bone to skull; curvilinear lines of indented points around skull.
Transcripton Skulls and other three-dimensional teaching tools were often authentic anatomical specimens and several companies specialized in preserving remains for educational use. This skull features metal hooks that allow students to see inside the cranium and jaw without disassembling them. The skull probably belonged to a woman and deterioration to the jawbone may indicate an infection caused by a poor tooth extraction. The skull's date is unknown.
