   <field><name>description:</name><value><description type="pinote">Edmund H. Harding, a native of Washington, North Carolina, chaired the committees in charge of the 1955 celebrations at Bath. Harding was a retired insurance and fertilizer salesman who had turned to public speaking. Harding&rsquo;s connection with Bath went back to his childhood in the 1890s when his father had served as rector of both St. Peter&rsquo;s Episcopal Church in Washington and St. Thomas Church in Bath.</description><description type="trans">No 7/14
<lb/>
<lb/>Edmund H. He has asked me to act as Chairman. I hope that you have written him accepting the appointment. It will not be too big a job if everyone will help.
<lb/>
<lb/>I am calling a meeting of the Commission to meet at my summer cottage on Pamlico River, seven miles below Washington, next Monday, July 18th at 3:30 in the afternoon. The place is on the road to the Country Club and will be well marked with the word HARDING. We will have the meeting at 3:30, after which committees appointed will have a meeting of their own. I shall cook a couple of pigs. We will eat and you can go home by seven o'clock.
<lb/>
<lb/>This will be the only general meeting of the Commission and I hope that you will do your best to be present. May I hear from you please on the enclosed postal card.
<lb/>
<lb/>Sincerely,
<lb/>
<lb/>Edmund H Harding [signature]
<lb/>
<lb/>Edmund H. harding
<lb/>
<lb/>Please try to come and bring John with you.</description><description type="note">Letter from Edmund Harding about Fletcher's being asked to be on the commission.
