Letter from George Attmore Sparrow to Thomas Sparrow
Letter from George Attmore Sparrow in Okaw, Illinois to his father Thomas Sparrow. George tells his father that he has just returned from planting green peas in his garden. He says that the children started school that day and that his mother wants him to carry his baby brother Johnny over to Grandma’s house. George says that his Aunt Fanny came over to visit, Mr. Hickock got sick and had to leave school, and that he went over to his grandpa’s to show them how to set strawberries.
From the papers of Thomas Sparrow (1819-1884), a lawyer from Washington, N.C. who fought in the Civil War and later represented Beaufort County in the North Carolina General Assembly.
