My daddy worked here in the mid-20th century, as a driver for the Railway Express. When work became limited due to less rail-delivery, he moved on to another job in the mid-60's. I have fond memories of going to work with him on occasional Saturdays, playing in the passenger station, or riding on his truck with him around Goldsboro. I was very sad when the building fell into such disrepair, and was happy to see it being restored.
My dad worked in this building in the 1940's until his retirement approx 1972. I was born in 1945 and have visited him at work many times between 1st grade and high school graduation. The building was almost destroyed by a building supplies company using it for storage of materials. I see no trees in the front. It had pecan trees in the front of it when I was only 6 or 7 years old. Dad would bring them home in his pockets and crack them for us to eat on the front porch of our home.
