I also remember stopping in mid-ocean to transfer a sick seaman from another ship to the Vance.ALSO THE TIME WE STOPPED NEAR BREMENHAVEN FOR SOME LOOSE FLOATIN MINES. My mother, Jean Armstrong, a GI War Bride from Stoke-On-Trent, England and my brother came to the U.S. on the Zebulon B. Vance on the same voyage. She lives in Oklahoma with my father. They have been married 67 years. I came to this country as a GI bride on the Zebulon B. Vance. It docked in NY on April 4, 1946. Mayor Laguardia came and welcomed us to this country. It was a very bright sunny day. The voyage had taken 15 days and 15 nights because we had to come the great circle way to avoid mines possibly still in the ocean.
