Outterbridge is a Los Angeles-based painter, sculptor, and installation artist who was born in Greenville, North Carolina. A veteran of the U.S. Army and an administrator at the Watts Towers Arts Center and the Pasadena Art Museum, Outterbridge’s art often features found objects and is politically and socially charged, driven by the events in Watts in the 1960s, the black district of Los Angeles, and the Watts Towers constructed by artist Simon Rodia. Identity and culture are major themes in his work.
