HISTORICAL SKETCH—Continued from page five

Ashpole and Rowland then called Rev. John McSween to the pastorate. He accepted and in July, 1919, began a pastorate which though brief was greatly successful. There was a notable increase in activity among the young people resulting in the organization of a Christian Endeavor society. The membership of the church grew to 167.

The present pastorate began July, 1922. During these years the church has paid for the manse and built the hut for Sunday School classes and social purposes. This building made possible the reorganization of the Sunday School into departments. The resident membership is now 212.

Since the organization the women of the church have been very active. Today the Rowland Auxiliary is among the leaders in the Presbyterial in Standards of Efficiency, and deserves special commendation for sacrificial giving to the benevolent causes of the church.

SERVICE

It is gratifying to note that this Institution through its Predecessor, had its origin twenty eight years ago — just two years “younger” than the Rowland Presbyterian Church itself, to which we extend our felicitations.

To serve well and help promote the best interests of this section is the aim of this institution.
