Pictured on page 140 of the 1934 Tecoan, the annual yearbook of East Carolina Teachers College, is the 1933-1934 women's basketball team (upper) and the women's athletic association (lower). According to Pieces of Eight, April 1, 1984, President Robert H. Wright agreed to allow the women to form a basketball team for a trial period. Professor A. D. Frank served as the coach of this team, which went on to have an undefeated season. Because of the team's success, President Wright agreed to support the team from that point forward. For more information about the 1934 women's basketball team and their undefeated season, see the article "Hats Off for a Winning Season," Pieces of Eight, April 1, 1984, which is available online at the ECU Memories page of the East Carolina University Archives website.
